Margo Lockwood
Margo Lockwood, former music instructor at Windrush School and conductor for the San Francisco Girls Chorus school, is currently offering piano lessons for adults and children in the East Bay. Learn to perform with musical artistry and personal expression from a performer well-versed in classical music as well as jazz and popular styles. My pupils range from those who play for pure pleasure and the joy of acquiring new skills, to the advanced, who engage with professional repertoire. Some choose to participate in the Music Teachers of California’s Certificate of Merit program. Whatever your dream, I am here to guide you in your personal musical path.
Along with developing classical music interpretations, I weave theory, composition, and jazz styles into the learning process. Rhythmic acuity, literacy, and enjoyment are enhanced with percussion instruments and movement. The fun way! I enjoy helping students realize their musical dreams, so instruction is always tailored to each individual.
If anyone in your family loves music and has an interest in piano lessons, please contact me for more information. I have a deep background in working with both children and adults and enjoy working with all ages. I am also available for short term vocal coaching, as well as theory and sight singing instruction. References available upon request.
Background and Education
I am a vocalist, pianist, and choral director, experienced in teaching and conducting all ages. I hold an M.A in choral conducting from California State University, Los Angeles; a B.A. in Music from California State University San Jose; and an Orff Certificate from UC Santa Cruz. I directed the elementary music program at Windrush School in El Cerrito for many years while maintaining my private piano studio. I also arranged and conducted the music for two elementary choruses and a middle school jazz choir for Windrush. I have worked professionally in both jazz and classical idioms and perform when the opportunity arises. I conducted for the San Francisco Girls Chorus School where I directed the Level II Ensemble, the Preparatory Chorus, and coordinated a choral program in the San Francisco public schools.
Looking forward to meeting you and beginning your piano adventures!
