The Jazzschool Piano Sale
Hailed by Living Blues Magazine as “one of the brightest stars in the San Francisco Bay Area music scene and nationwide” and recipient of five consecutive Blues Music Award nominations, saxophonist and vocalist Nancy Wright will appear with her Rhythm and Roots Band (internationally acclaimed seasoned veterans Jeff Tamelier, Tony Lufrano, Karl Sevareid, and Paul Revelli) to deliver solid soul blues, funk and soul jazz originals and fresh blues, roots, and Americana renditions.
Vocalist Kenny Washington, a native of New Orleans, teams up with composer, arranger, and pianist Larry Dunlap for an evening of rare musicianship and unique interpretations.
Pianist Omar Sosa brings his B-Bay Quartet, featuring Josh Jones on drums, Sheldon Brown on saxophones, bass clarinet, and flute, and Ernesto Mazar Kindelán on bass. The band will play renditions of a number of Omar’s signature compositions, including ‘L3zero,’ ‘My Three Notes,’ ‘Light in the Sky,’ and ‘Remember Monk,’ as well as several new pieces. Ernesto brings a powerful Cuban vibe to the mix, complimenting Sheldon’s amazing improvisations, and Josh’s tight, funky stick work. Omar will enjoy one of Piedmont Piano’s fine concert grands without electronics or samplers or other effects. Join us for jazz that cooks!
Longtime musical associates Peter Apfelbaum (piano, saxophone) and Josh Jones (drums, percussion) return to the piano store for their first concert since 2019! In their largely improvised performances, Apfelbaum's expansive, polyrhythmic approach to the piano combines with Jones's mastery of Afro-Cuban rhythms. Celebrating 43 years of performing together, they will also be playing material from their shared partnership in Apfelbaum's Hieroglyphics Ensemble and Don Cherry's Multikulti.
