Ensemble 1828 Celebrates Beethoven's 250th
Ensemble 1828 – violinist Nicole Oswald, cellist Isaac Pastor-Chermak, and pianist Alison Lee – debuted in June 2019 with a seven-concert tour of Northern California cities, performing an all-Schubert program to packed houses and critical acclaim. Honoring Schubert’s last and most productive year with their name, Ensemble 1828’s debut was praised for its “thoroughly engaging energy” and “rhetorical uniqueness.” In March 2020, the trio is back on tour in the Bay Area celebrating Beethoven’s 250th birthday with performances of his Archduke trio. Rounding out the program are piano trios by Leonard Bernstein and Astor Piazzolla. Join us!
The Music of Pixinguinha
Duo Violao plus 1 – Rogerio Souza, Edinho Gerber, Ami Molinelli – will play music by Pixinguinha from their album Historia do Choro released last year. They will also explore more music of this brilliant composer, arranger, flautist, and saxophonist born in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, considered one of the greatest Brazilian composers of popular music, particularly within choro. By integrating the music of the older choro composers of the 19th century with contemporary jazz-like harmonies, Afro-Brazilian rhythms, and sophisticated arrangements, he introduced choro to a new audience and helped to popularize it as a uniquely Brazilian genre. He also wrote sambas, maxixes and several other styles of music and is considered the godfather of this genre.
For one night only, Sullivan Fortner and Kyle Athayde will give a piano/vibraphone duo performance at Piedmont Piano Company. This is their first time playing at the piano store as a duo, and will include selections from their upcoming album, as well as their organic and intimately communicative arrangements of originals and standards. This is an event you definitely don’t want to miss!
