Dillon Vado's Never Weather

You may know Dillon Vado as the vibraphonist who earned 1st place in Jazz Search West 2014, or the vibraphonist/percussionist in Alan Hall’s band Ratatet, or as the drummer and sideman for many people like Jeff Denson, Sandy Cressman, Jovino Santos Neto and Art Lande. But this concert you can hear Dillon play drums with his newest project, Never Weather, as they celebrate a year of playing together and the finishing of their debut record, Blissonance.

Never Weather is a jazz-inspired quintet led by percussionist and composer, Dillon Vado. Dillon’s original compositions borrow influences of Free Jazz, Rock and Chamber Music to make exciting arrangements that allow for genuine improvisations each performance. Never Weather has 5 distinct personalities within the band and strives to make music that showcases each voice of the group, while simultaneously exploring complex themes such as the emotional impacts of climate change and human relationships to time as cycle. Never Weather just finished recording their debut album, Blissonance, which will be released on Ridgeway Records.

Dillon Vado is a drummer, vibraphonist and educator in the San Francisco Bay Area, and a graduate of the California Jazz Conservatory. In 2014, Dillon received 1st place in the Jazz Search West competition on vibraphone. Dillon was also acknowledged as the Most Promising Young Jazz Artist of 2017 from the  Buddy Montgomery Jazz Legacy Awards.

He regularly performs on vibraphone with Alan Hall’s Ratatet, on drums with The Electric Squeezebox Orchestra and Jeff Denson Quartet, and leads several of his own projects, including The Table Trio, Never Weather, and  Beyond Words: Jazz and Poetry.

Big Apple born and Motor City bred, Justin Rock has swiftly made a name for himself in the SF Bay Area and beyond. He is the leader and sideman in multiple projects spanning many different styles. In addition to performing (David Binney, Roy Hargrove, Stacy Dillard, Dillon Vado's "Never Weather", Logan Kane's "Open Eyes", LOUIZA, Steven Lugerner and The Sluggish Ensemble, Bastet, and many others), Justin also teaches (SFJAZZ, Stanford Jazz Workshop and outreach programs, private lessons) and composes commercial music.

Dr. Josh D Reed holds degrees from the University of Colorado Boulder, the Eastman School of Music, and James Madison University. As a performer, Dr. Reed has shared the stage with artists such as Dave Douglas, Brad Goode, Art Lande, Rich Perry, Greg Gisbert, Paquito D'Rivera, Rufus Reid, and Darlene Love. He has performed throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Costa Rica. He currently leads his own trio, quartet, and quintet. He is also a member of Matt Smiley’s Art Deco, The Dru Heller Quintet, Adam Bartczak’s Republic, Dillon Vado's Never Weather, The Emily Takahashi Quintet, and TAJ with Tim Wendel and Art Lande. As an educator, Dr. Reed has taught private lessons, ensembles, and courses at Lagond Music School in New York, Metropolitan State University in Colorado, University of Colorado, and communities throughout the United States. Dr. Reed directed the Jazz Program at the University of Missouri in the spring of 2017 before directing the Jazz Program at Santa Clara University.

Saxophonist Aaron Wolf holds a BA in jazz performance from Berklee College of Music in Boston, and a Masters of Music in Jazz Studies and Improvisational  Music from University Nevada Reno. He has had the opportunity to study with Joe Lovano, Hal Crook, George Garzone, Bill Pierce, Joanne Brackeen, and Peter Epstein, to name a few. As a performer, Aaron has performed with Adam Benjamin, Jason Crosby, Caleb Dollister, Jason Harnell, Jeff Miley, Sam Minaie, Derek Oles, Vardan Ovespian, Paul Roth, Matt Slocum, and Inga Swearingen. From 2008, till 2014, Aaron was a faculty member at Cuesta College, in San Luis Obispo, CA, teaching theory, Jazz History, and leading Cuesta's Jazz Studies program in 2011 and 2012.  Currently, Aaron teaches music theory and directs the Band and Orchestral Music program at Basis Independent Silicon Valley, a private middle/high school downtown San Jose.

Tyler Harlow is a SF Bay Area bassist and composer obsessed with adventure through music. He builds on the jazz tradition to create his own voice as a composer and improviser, intent on innovation. Tyler is a graduate of the California Jazz Conservatory, and an in-demand bassist, performing regularly throughout the Bay with local and touring acts. Tyler primarily features his composing in his own group, Traveler; and with other innovative groups like Never Weather.
