Philip Aaberg, solo piano

Philip Aaberg brings his eclectic musical background to the piano store for one special evening of solo piano. Hear the Great Northern train thundering across the High Plains of Montana, roll down the Marias River and listen to “Chicago Breakdown” and “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” from Aaberg’s latest CD Versatile. He often says, "it's all one music,“ but rarely can an artist cover this kind of musical ground so well.

$25 General Admission

Grammy and Emmy nominee Philip Aaberg has performed his solo piano pieces around the world to great fan and critical acclaim, after years as a rock journeyman in the bands of Elvin Bishop and Peter Gabriel, among others. He has been commissioned to compose music of place in upstate New York, rural Kansas, Wyoming and Montana, where he now lives. Aaberg has received the Montana State Governor's Award for the Arts, and the same award for the Humanities, an Innovation Award from the Montana Arts Council, and named Treasured Artist by Montana's Secretary of State. In 2013 Montana State University gave him the first Honorary Doctorate in Music ever presented there.

Aaberg received a B.A. from Harvard on a Leonard Bernstein scholarship. He has appeared on over 200 albums and has released 14 albums on Sweetgrass Music, a label he owns and operates with his wife, Patty.
