Classical trained Argentinean pianist and composer Emilio Solla blends the tango and folk of his homeland with the freedom of jazz and the architecture of European chamber music. He returns for a performance with bandoneonist Seth Asarnow, a key player in the SF tango scene, to present originals and versions of a few traditional Argentine tangos, for an evening that you certainly do not want to miss!

With a career that spans 35 years now, Grammy Nominated, Argentina born and New York based pianist and composer Emilio Sollagot his degree in Classical Piano at the National Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires and his MA in Jazz Composition at Queens College in New York.

Solla has released 10 albums as a leader and more than 40 as producer/arranger and is considered one of the most outstanding musicians worldwide in the Tango-Jazz genre, a blend of Argentine tango and other Latin American rhythms with the freedom and improvisation of jazz music. He has performed all around Europe, Japan, the US and Latin America to outstanding reviews in many of the most important jazz houses and festivals.

He has composed for and recorded/performed with Paquito D’Rivera, Arturo O’Farrill, Edmar Castañeda, Pablo Aslan, Cristina Pato and many others.

His album Second Half was nominated for a 2015 Grammy Award as Best Latin Jazz Album. He continues to tour with his many projects, from duos to symphony orchestras, and is an active freelance arranger and composer in the demanding NY music

Seth Asarnow, a native of the Bay Area, has a repertoire consisting of hundreds of tangos. His playing is heard on recordings that range in style from traditional tango to pop. Mr. Asarnow has composed film scores and has played on film soundtracks, and he works regularly with some of the finest tango dancers in the world.

He made his debut with the San Francisco Symphony in 2007 and performed with them again in January 2014. More recently he was a featured soloist at the Hollywood Bowl with Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. Other performance highlights include Piazzolla’s Four Seasons with Donald Runnicles and members of the San Francisco Opera Orchestra, as well as concerts with orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout Northern California. He also appeared on NBC's Dancing with the Stars, performing with the cast of the Broadway show Forever Tango.

Mr. Asarnow is also the bandoneonist and musical director of the show Tango Adamor, the Los Angeles Tango Festival, and Nora's Tango Week, an international festival now in its nineteenth year in the Bay Area. He also directs and performs often with his Sexteto Tipico, one of the few authentic traditional tango groups in the United States.

Seth Asarnow’s musical influences include Aníbal Troilo, Leopoldo Federico, and Astor Piazzolla, whom he met in 1989.
