World-renown Hungarian virtuoso pianist Klára Würtz will play an evening of Mozart, Schubert and Schumann. Hailed by critic Robert Cummings as one of “the more important pianists to have emerged from the latter decades of the 20th Century,” Klára’s performances are marked by her “light but strong touch, supple but sensitive technique and rare ability to balance the graceful and the soulful,” (James Leonard for All Music).

Klára Würtz studied at the Budapest Franz Liszt Academy with Zoltán Kocsis, Ferenc Rados and György Kurtág. She received scholarships from András Schiff for his masterclasses in Prussia Cove, England, won the Ettore Pozzoli piano competition in Milan in 1985, and was one of the prize winners at the International Piano Competition in Dublin in 1988. In 1989 she passed with distinction as a performing artist and music pedagogue at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. In 1991 she signed up with Columbia Artists Management, New York, and since then has performed over a hundred concerts in the United States and Canada. She has played at Carnegie Hall in New York, at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, at Zellerbach in Berkeley and at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago. Klára has recorded numerous CDs including the complete Piano Sonatas of Mozart, a selection of Schubert Sonatas, the Piano Works of Robert Schumann, Bela Bartok and concertos by Ravel, Mozart and Bartok. Her Mendelssohn recording with the Amsterdam Klavier trio was the critics’ choice of the year 2000 (Harris Goldsmith for International Record Review Magazine).
